Fhatu & Yola
Destination couple session
The portrait story
Their wedding plans had changed. The promise they wanted to remember had not.
When Covid forced Fhatu and Yola to cancel their wedding date, they still wanted photographs that felt worthy of the commitment they had made. While we were in Mossel Bay for another celebration, they flew down to meet us. We spent the afternoon moving from sculptural rock to open shoreline, following the light until the last colour left the water.

Chapter one · The meeting
A portrait session begins with trust, not a pose.
Fhatu and Yola arrived carrying a story that had already changed. We started slowly among the rock formations, giving them clear direction without asking them to perform. The aim was to create shape and confidence while leaving room for their own ease with one another.

Chapter two · The shoreline
The location became part of the portrait, never a backdrop pasted behind it.
We worked with the scale of the cliffs, the movement of the ocean and the reflection on the wet sand. Wide frames established the coast; closer photographs held the gestures and expressions that made the session personal.

Chapter three · After sunset
The sun disappeared. The colour kept unfolding.
The final light shifted from gold into blue and then an extraordinary violet sky. We stayed with it, changing position and exposure as the colour deepened, so the session could end with photographs that felt quiet, cinematic and unmistakably Mossel Bay.

What remains
What remains is not a substitute for the wedding that had to change. It is its own chapter: two people, one afternoon and a promise carried all the way into the afterglow.
